Dried Fruits and Edible Nuts

Edible Nuts: Nuts are among the most nutritionally concentrated of human foods and are an important food source for rural communities and forest dwellers. While some of the edible nuts support subsistence, others are of considerable commercial importance. We work to supply our customers with the best quality nuts sourced from the United States of America.

The following are some of the dried fruits and nuts we work with:

ALMONDS: Raw sweet Almonds taste delicious. Raw bitter almonds should only be eaten in small quantities as they can be toxic in larger amounts. Almonds are difficult to digest, so they should be chewed thoroughly.  Roasted Almonds are used in baked goods, cooked or dried and ground into a powder, or mixed with water to make almond milk. Almonds can be pressed for oil, which is commonly used as a food flavoring and in recipes.

Grades: 18/20, 20/22, 23/25, 24/26, 27/30, 30/32 etc. pieces per ounce.
Classes/varieties: Nonpareil, Carmel, Butte/Padre, Mission, Monterey, Sonora, Fritz, Price, Peerless
Types: Diced/sliced/slivered/meal, natural and/or blanched, according to the buyer's specification.

WALNUTS: Walnuts taste great raw, with a distinctive rich, sweet flavor. Widely used in baked goods and desserts. Can be pressed for oil, which will turn rancid if not used quickly. Native to eastern North America.

Sizes: Halves, Quarters and Pieces.
Color: Light, Light Amber, and Amber color.
Types: Shelled or In-shell.
Grading: When selecting almonds, select the type, color, and percentage (for example, LHP20 means Light Halves and Pieces with a minimum of 20% halves)

PECANS: Raw Pecans are delicious with a rich buttery flavor and popular in sweet desserts like pecan pie, enjoyed in the USA and worldwide.

  • Cooked Pecans can be used to make bread, cakes, ice cream, etc.

  • Milk to thicken soups and season hominy, corn cakes, etc.

  • Pressed Pecans make an edible Pecan oil.

Native to the mid-southern states of the USA.

Pecans are graded in sizes as follows:

Mammoth Halves, 200/250
Junior Mammoth Halves, 250/300
Jumbo Halves, 300/350
Extra Large Halves, 350/450
Large Halves, 450/550

PISTACHIOS:

  • Raw Pistachios have a mild, pleasant flavor. Often eaten as a snack or added to salads.

  • Roast Pistachios are used in ice cream, butter, baklava, biscotti, etc.

  • Pressed Pistachios make Pistachio nut oil, but Pistachios are expensive so not commercially viable.

The pistachio tree is one of the world’s oldest surviving tree species and is mentioned in the bible. It is native to western Asia, but also widely grown in the United States.

Dried fruits are fruits from which the majority of the original water content have been removed either naturally, or through sun drying, or through the use of specialized dryers or dehydrators.

Today, dried fruit consumption is widespread. Majority of the dried fruits we work with at Wigglesworth International are raisins, followed by prunes, apricots, peaches, and apples.

Many other fruits such as Aronia, cranberries, blueberries, cherries, and strawberries infused with sweeteners such as sucrose syrup, or regular fruit juices such as apple juice or pineapple juice prior to drying, are also in equal demand by our customers around the world.  We also offer some products sold as dried fruit, like papaya, pear, and pineapple, these most often come as candied fruits.
